Members of NALS are bound by the objectives of this association and the standards of conduct required of the legal profession.
NALS is dedicated to enhancing the competencies and contributions of members in the legal services profession. NALS accomplishes its mission and supports the public interest through:

BLSA, a Chapter of NALS, Inc., (formerly known as Birmingham Legal Secretaries Association) is a nonprofit, nonunion, professional and educational organization comprised of personnel working in any capacity in law-related offices and agencies. Our members include legal secretaries, legal assistants, paralegals, bookkeepers, typists, clerks, court reporters, judges, and law firm administrators. It is the local chapter of a tri-level association known nationally as NALS...the Association for Legal Professionals, and statewide as AALS, an Association of NALS, Inc. When you join BLSA, you also become a member of AALS and NALS.
BLSA offers continuing legal education programs, professional development, personal development, networking, leadership opportunities, professional certifications (ALS, PLS, and Certified PP), scholarships, NALS Legal Training Course at Samford University (Samford After Sundown), community outreach and service programs through NALS, educational conferences through AALS and NALS, social acitivites, association publications, and more.
